May 20th: Soccer Academy Cancelled

First, we are cancelling the Soccer Academy this evening.  The fields are too wet and the weather situation is a little dicey anyway.  We will try again next Monday.  (I know it is Memorial Day, but we will have it anyway.)

Our focus has been on individual skills and we are seeing some progress there.  We have worked on ball control (turns, dribbling moves, shielding) primarily.  The younger groups don't quite have those mastered yet, but we are seeing flashes of incorporating those skills into their play.  But we think we are laving the foundation for playing soccer the right way.

We have the opportunity to test those skills by placing some teams in a Show-Me State 3 v 3 tournament on June 15-16 in Columbia.  It's a fast-paced, small-sided game played on the turf at Hickman High School.  Win or lose, it's a lot of fun.  (For more information about the rules, you can visit the SMSG website.)

If your child is interested in playing, please email me by Thursday, so I can start putting the rosters together.  We will also need some parent coaches, so if you would be willing to do that, please let me know that as well.  (Or if you would like to volunteer someone else, that's fine too.)
